Just imagine, interactive media giving you something you've never experienced before: being depressed, without many job prospects, facing down the looming, inescapable dread that the fantastical life you were told to expect as a child simply won't come.

Sound too good to be true? Well, maybe you'll believe me when I say it gets easier, even for the person I'm forcing you to be in Sorry for Your Loss, a piece of interactive fiction about letting go, trying again, and overcoming fear. This whole thing is still very early in its planning stages, but to give you a rough idea, here's some helpful bullet points:

Sorry for Your Loss is NOT-

• an RPG. Inventory and number management isn't what I'm going for here, mostly because I'm bad with numbers. Expect a narrative that gives you some freedom of movement but is expecting a certain outcome.
• centered on romance. I do love a good dating sim, and a day may come where I have the confidence to take a stab at one, but while companionship is a cornerstone of the experience, there isn't going to be gameplay that involves choosing from a pool of suitors.
• for those already dealing with their own dark place. This is a personal and cathartic piece of fiction for me, having struggled for years to understand myself, my personal pain, and how to relate to those around me. I'm better now, but if I'd come across this at the wrong time, in the wrong place, it would have hurt pretty bad. I don't want that for you, and if discussions of death, trauma, abuse, isolation, depression, and anxiety, along with experiencing several visceral, upsetting in-narrative nightmares, aren't things you want to add to the pile, save this for a sunnier day.
